Sherry KujalaBiography

Sherry Kujala  currently performs with several orchestras in the Chicago area and in southeast Wisconsin.  She and her husband own and manage Progress Press, a publishing firm devoted to music and studies for the flute.  Sherry prepares the manuscripts and all of the publishing formats, while Walfrid provides his wisdom and insights.  The Kujalas live a block off the shore of Lake Michigan in Evanston, IL, and enjoy the comfort of their home which they share with their  pair of littermate kittens, Samuel and Josephine, acquired as 3-month-old tiny babies just days after the Wildacres retreat of 2018.

Sherry has served on boards of several orchestras, and at one time was on the staff of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the Development Department.  She was already playing in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and while in the building for that, heard of an office job that met her needs for income and close proximity to the Civic Orchestra.  After a very short time, Sherry formed a sincere interest in the inner workings of orchestras, and all of the behind the scenes efforts that are often invisible to the audience and the performers, but are essential to the success of the concerts.  Sherry is an operations freak about orchestras, and strives to ensure that the work space conditions are conducive to one's best work.

Sherry will be our guest speaker on Wednesday afternoon, June 24, with a talk: "How to reinforce the benefits of daily practice in order to confront new material with more confidence and readiness".
